Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic day of learning during their walk to Hartlepool Headland, putting their geography and observation skills into practice along the way.

As they travelled through West View, the children explored the local area, studying the dates on houses to discover when different parts of the estate were built. Once they arrived at the Headland, they investigated how humans have shaped the coastline by constructing sea defences to protect the area from the power of the sea.

After plenty of walking and several enthusiastic questions of, “Is it lunchtime yet?”, the children were delighted to enjoy their lunch with a beautiful sea view. They then put their artistic skills to work, sketching examples of street furniture such as lamp posts, benches and fences. Pupils also photographed local street scenes, which will inspire future artwork back in school.

As the weather became warmer throughout the day, everyone appreciated a well-earned frozen treat before beginning the journey back to school.

It was a busy day filled with learning, exploration, creativity and fun. Well done to Year 5 for their excellent behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the visit. We are sure they slept well that evening!
